Understanding Composing
A New York Writing Teacher named Anne was one of twenty teachers who participated in a research of basic writing at the University of New York in 1979. The study she underwent was about understanding the difference in writing amongst writers. There is many forms of recursive elements these are just some: visible, key words, and non- verbalized perception. A visible recursive element is the most common, involving rereading little bits of discourse. Another form is key words or items that pop up by the topic driving the writer to go back in the topic. One last example that would be the most difficult to identify with is non-verbalized perception for the reason that the move has no ties to the topic, feeling or words. Writers have two forms of structuring their writing composite which are projective and retrospective. Projective structuring is the ability to craft what one intends to say so that it is intelligible to others. Retrospective structure is identified by a felt sense. This is a feeling of understanding an image, or idea, it is a way the writer relates to their topics for the most part.
What is felt sense and how do I see my felt sense?
What is felt sense; the term” felt sense” is the movement that occurs inside the writer. This movement draws on a sense experience, it is physically felt and if on pays close attention and focuses on what the writer is describing, the reader will understand what the writer will have a sense of what the writer wrote. A philosopher at the University of Chicago describe felt sense as the soft underbelly of a thought. A kind of bodily awareness that…can be used as a tool. How do I see my felt sense and what I does to me. I see my “felt sense” when I write on daily a daily assignment. When I write all my emotions come out and that paves the way to my writings. If at any given moment I am sad the chances of my topic to be depressing is high possible. On the other hand, if I am happy my writing will most likely be upbeat. There are other forms of bring out my felt sense. For example, when I think of a specific time and location, I could place myself in that moment in time. As a writer, I will shape what I want you the reader to what I am writing about so that the reader can have a sense of what I was feeling or going thru. Physical feeling is also another form of felt sense. When it is early in the morning and the sun is rising, the breeze will transport me to the golf course as I have gone so many times in the past. I can stand there and picture so many events that have passed with a simple breeze of wind and seeing the sun rise. Some other forms of my felt sense is taste. If I want the reader to enjoy a food or favor that I have had before in my life, I can simply describe the food I’ve eaten and where. By elaborating on my felt sense the reader can get a better understanding of what I am write about. In conclusion it is important that the reader can experience a emotion or thought by getting connected with the writer and their experiences. Felt sense is to capture and be enlighten by the writer.
