Revision Strategies of Student Writers and Experienced Adult Writers



Summary:



There are a lot of differences in the way that the student writers do a revision of their articles and in the way that experienced adult writers do.

It is very common that all the writers do it in a lineal way because they follow an structure like “first….then….and finally” it is a model that everyone do, because we need to have an order to do it, but the point is that the student writers don’t matter in the way of revision, they just see if their writes are good enough to be with a teacher. The student writers need to be more like the experienced adult writers, because they have a meaning on their writes. The writes of the experienced adult writers have a purpose, to convince someone to think in different way, they don’t do like repetitive thinks like the students, that they say something and fifteen words later they say the same but in different words. We have to do our articles in a different way, with a purpose, we need to do them to convince someone because we can change totally the way of thinking of someone that is wrong, the revision of us is different of the revision of the adult writers, but all of us are trying to convince someone, and that is the point.





Question:



1._ why is Sommers arguing that writing is not linear (378) and why writing cant be compared to speech?



Response:



I totally agree with Sommers, because the writing is not linear. I think that the writing cant be linear because when we are writing we always look back and start writing about a different topic, and later we talk about a topic that we wrote before and that’s why the writing cant be linear because we always write about something we wrote before.

The writing cant be compared to speech because when we are writing and we make a mistake we can erase it and nobody is going to know it because you will publish your article after being corrected, and when we are specking and you make a mistake, or say another word the people will know it because they heard you and you need to apologize about it and that’s why the writing never cant be compared to speech, in the writing you can make a thousand of mistakes and before you publish it you can correct it and nobody is going to see it.

I think that the writing is easier, because when we write nobody is watching us and there is not pressure on that, I mean we cant fell nerves or things like that because them will know that we wrote it, but they are not in front of us and that’s why its better, the speech is more for important people like the president or someone more important, because all the people will hear them.
