The article, “Understanding composing” is about a research of a group of Teachers of English on basic writing at New York University. What is the author thinking about while writing? Annie, one of the teachers, observed in her analysis certain basic patterns.
Backward means re-reading little bits of discourses in order to correct and improve the sense of the paragraph.
The second recurring feature is some key word or item called up by the topic, on this way the writer recurs to an easy exit when is stuck and keep the notion of the topic
The third backward movement in writing is hard to describe because tries to identify the feelings of the writer surround the words while writing the term used to describe this focus of writers´ attention is “Felt sense”.
Felt Sense is the way of the author to write down his ideas based on his personal experiences, and on his vision of the world.
“Retrospective structuring” starts with that we already written and help us to choose the best structure for the paragraph. Other feature of the composing process “projective structuring,” that is the ability to crafts that one intends to say. In other words projective structuring is when the author takes the place of the reader to understand the idea he is trying to express.
The Felt Sense is when the topic evokes in the writer his own ideas, images, words, experiences, etc. helping him to capture better the sense of the composing.
